The practice
Bit-by-Bit, because that is how evidence actually lives.
Bit-by-Bit Forensics is an Oregon digital forensics practice. I work with criminal defense counsel, civil counsel, and private individuals. For defense cases, the point of the first review is to do the diligence then, so the record is not rebuilt later in post-conviction.
The name is literal. Storage is a sequence of bits. If you skip, overwrite, or “preview” the original, you have changed the exhibit. Collection procedures exist so that does not happen on my watch.
I am not an expert witness. I will testify to the methods I used and to the record of the work. I do not offer expert opinions. Reports are written so an attorney can follow what was done.
Independence
I am not a reseller of a single tool vendor. Methods are chosen for the exhibit, not the license plate on the dongle.
Chain of custody
Strict, from the first handoff. Every transfer is named, timed, and verified with SHA-256. If the chain cannot be shown, the item does not move forward.
Scope
Collection, examination, a written report, and testimony limited to the methods used. Not an expert opinion.
